Klaipėda Port to launch Baltic region’s first green hydrogen facility
30 May 2025The Environment and Energy Ministry has approved the environmental terms (AEPO) for the development and operation of a 100 MW electrolytic hydrogen production unit at the former Amyntaio–Filotas power plant in northern Greece.
The project is being spearheaded by Hellenic Hydrogen, a joint venture between Motor Oil and public power utility PPC, and is expected to produce up to 15,500 tons of green hydrogen annually.
The unit will generate hydrogen through water electrolysis powered exclusively by renewable energy sources. The output, to reach approximately 15.5 million kilograms per year, will be injected into the natural gas network operated by gas grid operator DESFA, where it will be able to be blended with natural gas and distributed to industrial users, including gas-fired power plants.
