Tunisia’s Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the French hydrogen developer HDF Energy to develop a first large-scale green hydrogen project to serve both the European market and domestic needs.

The proposed project has a potential capacity 1 GW of wind power, 500 MW of solar PV energy and 800 MW of electrolysers to produce up to 65 kt of hydrogen, with an initial investment of about €3bn. The green hydrogen production is expected to be exported to Europe through the SoutH2 corridor, a hydrogen pipeline project that aims to ensure hydrogen imports from North Africa through southern Italy to important hydrogen demand clusters in Italy, Austria and Germany.
