Four UK hydrogen aviation projects are in line for a share of £3.6m ($4.8m) in Department for Transport (DfT) funding through the first round of the zero-emission flight demonstration flight demonstrator competition.

Half of the eight winners centre on hydrogen and will receive grants for projects lasting up to two years from August onwards.

ZeroAvia was the biggest winner in the hydrogen sector, receiving £2.1m ($2.8m) for its HyPrime liquid hydrogen (LH2) airport refuelling and infrastructure project carried out in collaboration with UlemCo, GeoPura, and Bristol and Birmingham airports.

The grant covers almost two-thirds of the project’s total costs.
