25 July 2024Shell has taken a Final Investment Decision (FID) to progress REFHYNE II, a 100-megawatt renewable proton-exchange membrane (PEM) hydrogen electrolyser at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland in Germany.
Using renewable electricity, REFHYNE II is expected to produce up to 44,000 kilograms per day of #renewablehydrogen to partially decarbonise site operations. The #electrolyser is scheduled to begin operating in 2027.
“The hydrogen sector is proceeding, but what is urgently needed are the final investment decisions (FIDs) and news as the one from Shell today are much needed. There will be more being announced in the next weeks and months. Each one of them is important in this decisive time of the energy and mobility transition,” commented Hydrogen Europe CEO Jorgo Chatzimarkakis.
