The Spanish government today approved a new target to install 12GW of electrolysers producing green hydrogen by 2030 as part of its new updated National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan 2023-2030 (PNIEC).

The previous target, set by Spain’s 2020 Renewable Hydrogen Roadmap, was 4GW.

Also included in the new document — which was approved by the Cabinet this morning — is an objective for 74% of the hydrogen used by industry to be green by 2030. This is far higher than the 42% figure agreed by EU member states last year in the Renewable Energy Directive.
