Danish Topsoe has been selected as the ammonia technology licensor for Acwa’s (TADAWUL:2082) gigawatt-scale Yanbu Green Hydrogen Project in Saudi Arabia, which is expected to reach final investment decision (FID) in 2026.

The project, which will include a large-scale green ammonia plant, is planned to begin operations in 2030. The complex is set to feature 4.4 GW of electrolysers, powered by 10 GW of wind and solar.

Under the agreement, Topsoe will provide technology to convert green hydrogen produced at Yanbu into ammonia. The Danish company will also supply engineering services, proprietary equipment and catalysts to Sinopec and Tecnicas Reunidas, which have jointly secured the front-end engineering design contract for the project.
