Responsibilities:

The primary focus of this position will be in the United Kingdom (UK). As a commercial manager, your main responsibility will be to oversee projects where the main buyer has been identified and initial discussions with the buyers have taken place. You will lead the commercial aspects of these projects, with the following key tasks:

  • Develop and maintain the overall commercial strategy and framework of the project.
  • Collaborate closely with local business developers and the buyer to create a hydrogen purchase agreement (HPA) that aligns with the project’s power sourcing strategy and meets an acceptable risk level for the company.
  • Lead negotiations with the customer.
  • Obtain internal approvals for the HPA.
  • Collaborate with our Markets team to secure suitable power hedging, such as a power purchasing agreement (PPA), for the project, including defining the PPA requirements.
  • Ensure the project applies for appropriate public funding.
  • Ensure that the development of new customers for the project aligns with the overall commercial strategy and framework.
  • Occasionally assist local business developers in defining the commercial offering during initial discussions with buyers and participate in 1-2 early meetings to help understand customer needs.
  • Contribute to the development of a standardized set of commercial offerings (PPA/HPA/contracts) that can be used across our hydrogen markets.
  • Lead or assist in establishing partnerships or joint ventures, such as with customers, technology partners, or co-developers.

Requirements: 

  • Possess a university degree in a relevant field and a wealth of experience.
  • Possess expertise in commercial capital project development, contracting, strategy, M&A, or related areas.
  • Show that you have a solid commercial understanding of project economics and important value drivers.
  • Possess the capacity for collaboration, people development, and strong leadership.
  • Demonstrate your ability to drive projects and processes with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain a positive outlook while handling a heavy workload across several ad hoc projects.
  • Uphold your integrity and professionalism.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both in writing and speaking. Knowledge of additional major European languages would be advantageous.
