The fuel cell system will be an integral part of microgrid energy solutions for the future. We are working with energy partners to bring this system to the market. To add to our entrepreneurial team, we are looking for a team member with experience in the energy sector & technology who can manage the certification, safety, and quality aspects of the product to enable the company to sell and deploy the solution in North America during a pilot / demonstration and commercial phases.

Job Description:

• In this role as the Certification, Safety and Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for enabling the product to obtain necessary local certifications and therefore, act as a key interface to the notified body and other regulatory bodies. This role includes deriving safety requirements on a system and component level, as well as supporting the definition of the related safety concept. Coordinating the certification & testing efforts, as well as tracking product quality and managing technical risks are other key aspects of your role.

Your responsibilities include:

• Safety first: Identification, tracking and interpretation of regional standards, regulation, and legislation to derive safety requirements on fuel cell component and system level. Work with global cross-functional safety teams to define safety concept and derive & document related requirements for hardware and software.
• Coordinate local certification efforts: Serve as the main point of contact and interface to regional notified and other regulatory bodies. Evaluate and coordinate testing and certification efforts in alignment with the global certification team. Track and evaluate impact of testing and certification requirements on product and component design.
• Quality: Responsible for local quality and technical risk management. Track & review product documentation.
• Support customer success: Technical support for field service and test team regarding safety and safe operation & deployments of fuel cells. Review installation and deployment documentation and provide feedback to the internal and external execution teams.
• Collaboration: Skilled at working cross-functioning with your team and not working alone in your own silo.
• Contributor: Working in the details and execution of field pilots for a new technology and business.
• Travel Expectation: Ability to travel up to 25% (domestic), with the ability to travel to Germany for 2 to 4 weeks for on-site training by the Core team at the start of the job.

Basic Qualifications:
• 3+ years of experience in energy or technology fields, such as microgrids, distributed energy, renewable energy, Utility scale power, stationary generation technologies (Combined-heat-and power, gas engines, fuel cells or similar) etc.
• 3+ years of experience in gas and electrical safety, as well as certification and testing of stationary generation technologies in commercial and / or laboratory / experimental deployments
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technical or Science.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Comfortable working in a “startup” environment in the pre-commercial piloting stage moving into the operational stage.
• Strong communication skills both customer facing and internally, able to communicate and influence stakeholders in a globally distributed team.
• Strong self-starter.
• Can easily work remote with digital tools for both internal and external communication and collaboration (i.e. Microsoft Teams, Mural, etc.)
• Experience in deploying / integrating stationary technologies for the provision of power and / or heat.
• Experience in quality and risk management.
• Experience in data analytics, fault detection and documentation.
• Experience in requirements engineering, product management.
