German gas network operator GASCADE Gastransport GmbH has signed a grid connection agreement for HH2E AG’s green hydrogen project in Lubmin on the Baltic Sea coast which will enable the blending of green hydrogen within the natural gas network.

HH2E’s plant in Lubmin, in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, will be put into operation by the end of 2025 and will be connected to the European Gas Pipeline Link (EUGAL Lines 1 and 2) which initially will transport natural gas blended with hydrogen.

The grid connection agreement follows a year of joint technical planning, HH2E said this week.

The pipeline link is part of the Flow – making hydrogen happen pipeline project that is planned to connect the Baltic Sea coast to southern Germany with the first section of it slated for launch already in 2025. As part of the project, about 480 kilometres of a long-distance gas pipeline in the eastern region, stretching from Lubmin to the Czech Republic border, will be repurposed for the transportation of hydrogen instead of natural gas.
