The HYdrogen Technologies and Resilient Energy Systems unit (HyRES) is a research and development unit at the forefront of advancing hydrogen technologies and resilient energy systems. With a primary focus on hydrogen, the unit works diligently to innovate the future energy grid, making it more intelligent and capable of integrating renewable sources. Ensuring energy resilience and security is a central goal for the unit, to be reached in collaboration with industrial partners. The unit research encompasses various aspects, including hydrogen production, storage and final uses, all with the overarching aim of reducing the carbon footprint of energy systems and positively impacting the energy market, making it more sustainable and secure for the future.

HYRES unit is involved in the following European projects and industrial consultancies:

  • THOTH2

When conveying pure H2 or H2/NG mixtures, THOTH2 intends to fill the gaps in normative standards related to procedures and protocols for assessing the performances and determining the limits and tolerances of state-of-the-art (SoA) measurement instruments in transmission and distribution systems. THOTH2 will develop specialized methodologies to test various measuring devices installed in the gas transmission and distribution grids, such as gas meters, gas volume conversion devices, pressure and temperature transducers, gas quality analyzers, and gas leak detectors, at various operational conditions. The findings of THOTH2 will help to form suggestions for the Technical Committees (TC) of International Standard Bodies, Gas Transmission and Distribution Operators (TSOs, DSOs), Manufacturers of Measuring Devices, and Calibration Service Providers.

  • Industrial consultancies and others granted projects concerning characterization activities on low and high-temperature fuel cells and electrolyzer cells.
