Engineering Manager The Operational Unit Heat Projects within a leading energy company develops and implements new-build Combined Heat & Power plants and District Heating plant projects.

The Engineering Department – within Heat Projects – consists of an international team of highly qualified engineers from different disciplines and engineering managers.

The department is responsible for the technical aspect of project development and execution, including drafting requirements, concept development, coordination with construction contractors, installation works, commissioning, and handover. The role involves collaboration with stakeholders and supporting projects with scheduling, cost estimation, and quality management. The company is focused on converting assets to sustainable technologies in line with its mission of achieving “fossil-free generation within one generation.”

The Engineering Division is dedicated to deepening its knowledge and experience with innovative technologies such as P2G, P2H, H2 technologies, heat pumps, etc. In the UK, the company is involved in building new district heating networks for large areas and cities.

They have secured partnerships with several Councils across the UK and on the Riverside Heat Network in London. Projects include heat pump installations, energy from waste off-take, utilization of other waste heat sources, third-party heat offtake, and power to heat solutions. The focus is on 4th and 5th generation district heating and cooling networks with low temperature systems.

To support their extensive project portfolio, the company is seeking an Engineering Manager for a 12-month contract starting in June 2023, based in Bristol, UK.

The position involves:

  • Taking accountability for the engineering workstream, including team setup with internal and external members of the supply chain, and coordinating construction projects in compliance with process engineering.
  • Coordinating design development throughout project phases, setting design requirements, and monitoring quality.
  • Collaborating closely with the Project Manager, providing and gathering information from stakeholders.
  • Preparing project phase-dependent documents, cost estimates, and participating in project meetings, negotiations, and bid evaluations.
  • Ensuring quality assurance and control during planning, tendering, construction, commissioning, and operation.
  • Participating in knowledge exchange within projects and departments.
  • Preparing reports, presentations, and staying updated on project developments and market technologies.
  • Reporting to the Project Manager and Manager Development/Execution Engineering, serving as a sparring partner for the project management team.
  • Building and motivating engineering teams using effective people skills.

Requirements:

  • Degree in process engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or power plant engineering, with a minimum of 5 years of planning and project management experience.
  • Experience in district heating and combined heat and power plants is advantageous.
  • Sound knowledge of heat generation processes and interface with district heating networks.
  • Strong leadership qualities and excellent analytical skills.
  • Multidisciplinary knowledge and structured work approach.
  • Self-initiated and good communication skills.
  • Emphasis on safety in design.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Experience with scheduling and engineering processes.
  • Teamwork experience with cultural sensitivity.
  • Familiarity with UK standards and project governance regulations.
  • Comfortable with occasional travel. Additional information:
