Job Description:
The Principal Electronics Engineer will play a pivotal role in developing cutting-edge sensor products for applications in the emerging green economy. Responsibilities include applying electrical expertise and design principles to create innovative sensor solutions, ensuring alignment with customer specifications, overseeing product verification in the field, collaborating with suppliers, leading verification/validation activities, and presenting design details to company management.
The role necessitates proficiency in microcontrollers, memory circuits, analog-to-digital/digital-to-analog converters, power/analog circuits (e.g., voltage converters, regulators, transformers), and a strong background in firmware and software development. Experience in ASIC development is advantageous, spanning from significant product developments to smaller research projects. The position also involves defining product requirements, supporting proposal development, and mentoring junior staff, alongside a moderate amount of travel.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Design and analyze precision analog circuits for electronic instrumentation.
- Develop digital signal processing circuits, firmware, and software for sensor signal conditioning.
- Conduct circuit design, schematic capture, and component selection.
- Drive product certification for safety standards.
- Perform worst-case tolerance analysis and failure mode assessment (FMEA).
- Test and evaluate prototype products and circuits.
- Collaborate across engineering disciplines for optimal designs within tight timelines.
- Support manufacturing during product introduction and troubleshoot existing product failure modes.
- Coordinate with suppliers for new designs and existing product fabrication.
- Provide engineering support to customers for new applications and existing products.
- Oversee product development from concept to production.
- Manage PCB layout and assembly of engineering prototypes.
- Conduct performance and validation testing.
- Experience in generating comprehensive proposals for potential customers.
- Supervise a team of electrical engineers.
- Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
- Manage product certification tests (FCC, CE, UL safety).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- 5-10 years’ experience in an electronics environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
- Preferred: PCB layout using Altium, PADs, OrCAD toolset.
- Preferred: Embedded system firmware using C and assembly language.
- Preferred: Digital signal processing algorithm development.
- Control loop design and implementation (analog/digital).
- Ability to multitask and work at a fast pace.
- Capability to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs with reasonable accommodation.
- Availability to work between 8:00 am & 5:00 pm M-F with occasional Saturday work.
