In your role as a commercial manager, you will primarily work on projects where the key off-taker has been identified and preliminary discussions with off-takers have taken place.

The following are the main duties of the commercial manager, who oversees the commercial workstream in projects:

  • Establish and uphold the project’s overall commercial strategy and logic.
  • Work closely with local developers and off-takers of businesses to create the hydrogen purchase agreement (HPA). This includes…
  • Create HPA with an acceptable risk level for us and alignment with the project’s power sourcing strategy.
  • Take charge of negotiations with the client
  • Obtain internal signoffs for the HPA that are required. Assist the Markets team in establishing the PPA requirements and obtaining an appropriate power hedging arrangement, such as a power purchasing agreement (PPA), for the project.
  • Ensure that the project submits an adequate request for public funding.
  • Ensure that the project’s efforts to acquire new clients are consistent with its overall commercial strategy and logic.

The commercial manager will occasionally assist regional business developers in formulating the initial commercial proposal presented during talks with potential buyers.

They will also participate in 1-2 initial meetings to assist in understanding customer requirements.

Contribute to the creation of a consistent array of commercial proposals that our business developers can present to clients (including PPA/HPA/contract options) within our hydrogen markets.

Take charge of or aid in the endeavour to initiate partnerships or joint ventures, such as those with clients, technology collaborators, or co-developers.

Qualifications: 

  • Possess a university degree in a relevant field, accompanied by well-documented extensive experience in the industry.
  • Hold expertise in commercial development of capital projects, including origination, negotiations, contracting, strategy, M&A, or analogous domains, gained from either the renewables sector, hydrogen sector, or backgrounds like management consulting or investment banking.
  • Exhibit a robust grasp of commercial dynamics, project economics, and pivotal value determinants. Display a proven track record of adeptly leading and nurturing individuals, while also fostering collaboration.
  • Showcase a potent capacity to proactively initiate, propel, and oversee projects and processes involving numerous internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exemplify a constructive demeanour, capable of engaging in multiple impromptu projects simultaneously, all while effectively managing a substantial workload.
  • Uphold professionalism and integrity as core values.
  • Possess excellent English language skills, both in written and verbal communication. Proficiency in other major European languages would be advantageous.
