Battolyser Systems is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer

In your role as Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the delivery of funded design input, optimization and (mechanical) verification of our product design. You use your extensive experience with mathematical modelling of static and/or dynamic systems to give direction to the design and its optimization towards a safe, well performing and economically sound product. You play an important role in the specification and technical documentation of our assemblies, parts and pieces.

Other main responsibilities are:

Setup and optimize mathematical models to calculate the systems behavior and derive input for the design and production engineering teams.
Perform on the spot calculations and support the design and production engineers by explaining mechanical behavior and relations between outcome and the design parameters.
(Re-)Validate the design by running interface studies and optimize these.
Identify loads and quantify these for use in models, simulation and verification.
Define assembly instructions from a mechanical standpoint, e.g. torque values, compression ratios, alignment parameters, etc.
Support, guide and stimulate the junior staff.
Selecting and optimizing the best mechanical design for safety, performance and (material) efficiency.
Support value engineering projects.
Work out strategies to have scalable and sustainable solutions.
Start and support continuous improvement projects.
Support the initial quotation process.
Contributing to setting up D-FMEA studies and help find mitigating solutions for risks.
Contribute to the verification and validation of the models and designs made.
Continuously keep an eye on potential improvements in the most general sense.
Identify gaps in knowledge within the department and suggest improvement actions.

Job requirements

About you:

We believe, to be successful in this role, you have 10-15 years’ experience in an engineering department, with a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering or higher. We are keen to hear from candidates with relevant expertise in the mechanical engineering field. You have a great understanding of mechanical engineering and can optimize without compromise in (required) functionality. You should be able to quantify the physical design and have the ability to explain and show why certain geometries and materials are best for our use case. You are a technology enthusiast eager to learn more and transfer that knowledge to your colleagues. We also believe that working for a scaleup organization forces you to strive in a dynamic growth environment that involves continuous change and flexibility.

The best combination of background, skills and experiences is:

Intrinsic motivation to improve.
Broad understanding of the engineering and design processes and tools.
Experienced in implementing and adhering to applicable codes and standards like the PED or NEN-EN 13445
Excellent ability to engage with both researchers and engineers in the office.
A ‘can do’-mentality with a growth mindset is a must and you do not compromise on safety nor quality.
Extensive experience in with mathematical modeling and verification of these.
Solid experience with Solidworks 3D modelling and 2D documentation.
Deeper understanding of tolerances, how and when to use and not use them.
Experience with delivering full product documentation packages (like PPAP).
Experience with defining and specifying welded assemblies is a welcome extra.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
