14 December 2023Shell Deutschland has signed a capacity reservation of 100MW with ITM Power for its PEM electrolyser stacks for hydrogen production in Rhineland, Germany.
Set to be manufactured between 2025 and 2026, the 100MW of TRIDENT stacks are planned for use at Shell’s Refhyne 2 project.
The project will see a PEM electrolyser installed at the Shell Rhineland Energy and Chemicals Plant in Germany. The electrolyser will use renewable power to produce green hydrogen which will help decarbonise the plant’s refinery operations.
Still pending final investment decision (FID), the project will initially see a 10MW electrolyser installed, before scaling to 100MW. Refhyne 2 aims to produce 15,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.
ITM Power’s TRIDENT electrolyser is a 2MW skid based on its 30bar stacks. The company says the system can deliver lower stack costs and reduced footprint.
“Today’s announcement is yet another validation of our technology and credibility to deliver at scale, providing reassuring recognition by a world-leading industrial customer,” said Dennis Schulz, CEO of ITM Power.
