9 October 2024A planning application for a “nationally significant” 3GW hydrogen plant called Kintore Hydrogen has been submitted by Statera Energy.
The facility proposed for Aberdeenshire will help balance the increasing proportion of renewable power generators being connected to the grid to produce green hydrogen, according to the developers.
Statera Energy said the plant would be the largest in Europe and the first 500MW of capacity will be operational by 2028.
When it operates at full capacity of 3GW, it “could save up to 1.4Mt of CO2 per year”, Statera Energy said. It will be the UK’s first utility scale green hydrogen project.
