On 1 April, the Voith Group founded Voith HySTech GmbH at its Garching location. With the new company, Voith is pooling its expertise in hydrogen storage systems – with a focus on heavy-duty vehicles.

Voith has developed a ready-to-install Plug & Drive H2 storage system for heavy-duty vehicles. The integrated 700-bar hydrogen tanks have had the road approval required for marketing in Europe since December 2023. The special feature here is that Voith relies on 700 bar pressure, as 350 bar is actually common in heavy-duty commercial vehicles with a cheaper and more robust technology (on the vehicle and filling station side). However, the trend is towards solutions with higher energy density, which is why Voith favours 700 bar and Daimler Truck even prefers deep-cooled, liquid hydrogen.
